The end of Year 6 is marked with Shelford's unique Leavers' Service at St Mary the Virgin, Great Shelford. Year 6 pupils lead the service, sharing their memories of their time at Shelford. Following this, the other pupils return to school to form a receiving line for the Year 6 procession to pass through. Year 6 pupils serve their parents with refreshments outside, followed by a celebratory lunch (Year 6 pupils vote on the menu prior to the event). The traditional shirt signing and a special sending at the end of the day, make for a mixture of an emotional, yet very enjoyable day just at the cusp of a new beginning for each of our amazing Year 6 children.
At the end of Year 6, our children move on to a wide variety of secondary schools, usually in the local area but in particular to Sawston Village College. Whilst we are sorry to see each one of them leave, we always enjoy welcoming former pupils back to the school and hearing of their success. All of our local secondary schools hold open days or information evenings and we would strongly encourage our parents to attend these in order to make an informed choice regarding education after your time here at Shelford.
There is a link below to the Cambridgeshire County Council page that provides more information about the process of applying for secondary school places.
With thanks to Adam Smyth - Chestnut Films - for capturing and sharing this wonderful video of the Class of 2022's last day at school.
