Year 5 trip to Burwell House
In Year 5, children all take part in a short residential visit to Burwell House. They enjoy a variety of activities whilst there, including making their own short films in a professional film studio as well as a host of team building exercises. Everyone thoroughly enjoys this great trip and the children all talk enthusiastically about the new skills they learn whilst away.
Burwell September 2024
11/09/24 - 8:45 - The children arrived with enthusiasm and excitement for the trip ahead! Suitcases wheeled up the drive and safely stored under the canopy... now just for the coach!
11/09/24 - 9:00 - A final briefing before going... an opportunity to focus on the amazing opportunities that await.
11/09/24 - 9:15 - We've been loading the coach and are now on our way!
11/09/24 - 10:00 - We have all safely arrived at Burwell... our bags are safely stored in one room, whilst we acclimatise to the site!
11/09/24 - 10:15 - time to listen to Ed's briefing for our visit ahead... objectives, aims and expectations!
11/09/24 - afternoon - the children enjoyed a range of activities outside the house, helping them to get their bearings and familiarise themselves with the grounds. After some orienteering with a map, we looked for clues around the gardens, which also had words linked to the history and geography of Burwell. After a short break, we had a tour of the TV Studios for tomorrow’s filming. Following this, it was time to make our beds! The children showed lots of resilience and kindness in helping each other. Following this, we practised a fire drill. Tea was delicious and well received… pizza and sticky toffee pudding!
11/09/24 - evening - children had some free time and then brought their cuddly toys down for the competition! Children took turns introducing them to the group! After this, we started the bed routine!
12/09/24 - lots of enthusiasm this morning! Two rooms woke very early, ready for a day of adventure. Cereal, toast and a cooked breakfast have set us up for a busy day ahead. We’re looking forward to the low ropes, followed by the TV studio experience!
12/09/24 - morning - this morning, we enjoyed the team building and problem solving challenges of the low ropes - lots of creativity was on display in how to solve these challenges! We enjoyed lunch of sandwiches and sausage rolls!
12/09/24 - the TV studios are in full-swing and children have enjoyed the range of roles! Each group has the opportunity to act their planned script out as well as a turn with the technology! Full HD cameras, a control desk and sound effects make up the toys on offer!! Mrs. Kennedy has left and now Mrs. Harrison has joined us for the afternoon. Throughout the day, we have been in our groups and in addition to the TV Studio experience, we have created our batik bags - marking on patterns with hot wax and carefully adding dyes.
12/09/24 - evening - Mrs. Harrison is saying farewell to us as Mrs. Clarke arrives to stay for the evening! Mr. Grey also drops in to catch up with Year 5. We enjoyed sausages, mash and vegetables for dinner, followed by chocolate cake. (Mr. Grey managed to sneak a piece of chocolate cake before saying farewell!) The golden candelabra went to Mrs. Sheppard's table this evening. We are looking forward to the Tuck Shop opening and watching the TV productions from the studio. After this, we will be heading off to have a campfire with hot chocolate.
13/09/24 - morning - everyone is getting up and getting ready for a busy (but cold) day ahead. Burwell Fox and group challenges await us today! The children slept very well last night and some even needed a gentle wake up! Breakfast was cereal, toast, sausages and beans!

All the children are happy and well. More updates to come!
23/10/24 - 6:30pm - The children really enjoyed their activities this afternoon. The groups will rotate tomorrow and the children are giving each other top tips! Dinner was delicious and the children are now getting prepared for the Grafham challenge. Once again, everyone is well and there have been no tears at all!
23/10/24 - 8:15pm - We've just returned to our rooms after all completing the very muddy Grafham Challenge! Everyone demonstrated great resilience and team work. After hitting the showers everyone is now settling down to play games or watch a film. Fingers crossed for some good sleep tonight!
24/10/24 - 8:30am - Good morning! The children had a reasonable night and have woken up bright and breezy this morning. We have had breakfast and will soon be heading off for our morning activities. Room inspection happening this morning!
24/10/24 - 12:30pm - Wow, your children are amazing! Mrs Haigh and Mrs Fewell have their hearts in their mouths but the children are smashing it on the high ropes! Miss Thompson's group set off for a bike ride round the lake which looks stunning in the sunshine.

24/10/24 - 1:40pm - We have just refuelled after a fun-filled morning of activities, including two groups on the high ropes conquering their fears. The third group was mountain biking around the reservoir and discovered a giant jumping pillow along the way.
24/10/24 - 6:50pm - We had a sunny and warm afternoon on the water. Once we’d all wriggled into wetsuits one group did kayaking, canoeing and fossil hunting whilst the other two groups did fun boating (sailing). We have just had another delicious tea of vegetable meatballs followed by chocolate brownie and are now playing some games before we watch a movie with a hot chocolate. Hoping for a bit more sleep than last night before we get up tomorrow to pack, have breakfast and then do our last activity! It’s gone so fast!
25/10/24 - 9:10am - After a much better night's sleep and a good breakfast we are now finishing packing and are looking forward to the last group activities - mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking and high ropes.
