Whilst pupils are grouped for registration and much of their work in class groups, they gain considerable benefit from working together across the ages.
One of the ways this is achieved is via the school's House system. A number of activities take place in Houses including:
- Sports Day
- Activities based around a theme such as one of the core school values
- Curriculum enrichment activities based on a particular theme
- Children sit in House groups for Friday's Celebration Assembly
Houses are also a means of providing an incentive for the children to work hard, for their House as well as themselves, in that they can earn "House points" for good work or behaviour. A friendly rivalry exists between the Houses with the cumulative points total is announced in the Friday assembly each week. A flag is raised by a winning House prefect while their anthem is played!
The six Houses each have a Latin name which is linked to an Olympic value. For ease, they also have adopted a nickname of a British wildlife species:
Stags Red Squirrels Swans
Otters Eagles Owls
